again is the order of life
embracing new beginnings and the power of 'again' in life, creativity and love.
i was in conversation with a friend of mine and she shared that she had created an instagram page called ‘thejoigarden’ - a beautiful space where she would share her love for floral aesthetics, nature and creatively express herself (click the link & check it out, i love the idea, concept and what she’s done so far, you might too) but she had fallen off of posting many times and she felt like she couldn’t go again.
that led me to say that “all we have is again til we don’t.” each day of our lives is an opportunity to go again. the very presence of a new day is an example of again, the sun rises again, the moon rises again, the birds sing their beautiful songs again and again. again is the order of life.
all of us have our own experiences like my friend, we begin something and for some reason or another, we fall off - whether it be the gym, writing or some form of creative practice, reading, whatever. we fall off and then the feeling that time has passed creeps in, it tells you that since you fell off, you’re a failure or there’s no need to get back on the saddle and go again but i’m here to tell you all you have is again.
falling off can feel fatal but it is not. falling off has its repercussions & its implications - if you never fell off you’d be much further, right? that’s true but if you never go again, you deny yourself the opportunity to reach that place of much further.
now, there’s another element to this conversation of again - what about when you genuinely no longer want to go again at something? you no longer want to be in the shitty job or be in the unhealthy relationship - should you go again and again at that? hear me and hear me well, absolutely not!
so, how do you reconcile that with the idea of all we have is again? it’s quite easy actually, at least to my mind.
we are given an opportunity each day to go again, to experience life, to try something new, to do it again and again.
one thing that stands out to me is love and relationships. i am single woman and all the relationships i’ve been in have come to an end but those endings do not impede my ability to experience a relationship and romantic love again.
another thing is my journey of sharing my thoughts and ideas with people, through wednesday word videos on instagram in the height of the pandemic, to lives, to a weekly newsletter, to sporadic writings, i am willing to go again and again and with as many iterations and versions as possible. i have a deep yearning to share what comes up, that’s the basis of all the iterations and versions that i’ve explored & that’s the again i am holding on to. the willingness to again at sharing what comes up on my heart.
when considering your again, i urge you to not be rigid about it. take an expansive approach - embrace all the iterations of again and lean into them. as they arise.
today, i implore you to remember, all we have is again, until one day, we don’t. so, keep going again and again and again.
i love when you all engage me so please:
Let today be your 'again'—embrace the opportunity to keep going, evolve, and try again. If this piece resonates with you, I'd love for you to share your thoughts. And remember, we’re all on this journey together—connect with me on Instagram @zoe.mercedes and leave me a tip or buy me a coffee/tea to support my continued sharing. Your encouragement means more than you know. Keep going, always. 🌱✨
This was such a wonderful, motivating and inspiring read. Thank you for sharing. This is one of my favourites!
Zoe, this is another example of why we follow your lead. Such a thoughtful piece of advice about how to just keep going and getting on with it.
I especially like how you urge us to be intentional but not too harsh on ourselves, "when considering your again, i urge you to not be rigid about it. take an expansive approach - embrace all the iterations of again and lean into them. as they arise." Just calming. A safe space to be......
